Mavrotragano
Revival pioneer

Domaine Sigalas

Oia (Baxedes), Santorini · Cyclades, Greece

A pioneer of the Mavrotragano revival, making a benchmark varietal red and the MM Mavrotragano-Mandilaria blend from volcanic vineyards in the north of Santorini.

Founded by Paris Sigalas in 1991, Domaine Sigalas is one of the names most closely tied to Mavrotragano’s modern revival — among the first to treat the variety as a serious dry red rather than a near-forgotten curiosity. The estate bottles a varietal Mavrotragano, fermented in open wooden vats and stainless steel and aged around twelve months in French oak, alongside the Mavrotragano-Mandilaria blend labelled simply MM. Fruit comes from volcanic, kouloura-trained vines in the north of the island.
